Madrid (Spain), 20 - 24 november 2012 Visual Communication (VisCom) students are visiting Madrid and New York to experience foreign culture, art, image - and street culture. Not only in a passive way by visiting for example Moma, Guggenheim, Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen, etc, etc. But also in an active way by being involved in several project in these cities. In Madrid as well as in New York the students will work on an interdisciplinary project . All this as a part of the professional training of the Vis(ual) Com(munication) students.
TIM BURTON - PARIS 2012Studenten viscom (facultatieve excursie) gaan naar Tim Burton in Paris at Cinematheque francaise
Tim Burton has landed in Paris -- specifically, at the famed Cinémathèque française. The art exhibition devoted to the eccentric American filmmaker has been a popular success in New York, Melbourne, Toronto and, most recently, Southern California, at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. While it may be hard for the French to grasp the significance of Burbank -- the suburb where Burton grew up, and a key point of reference in the exhibition -- the playfully dark images of the Burton universe constitute an international language that needs no cultural translation. Perhaps even more than in the U.S., Burton is lauded in France as a cinematic visionary, a rare example of an auteur filmmaker working within the Hollywood studio system. (The Cinémathèque's news release asks rhetorically if Burton is "the most European of American filmmakers?") The exhibition comprises hundreds of drawings, designs, costumes and movie artifacts created by Burton and his collaborators. It opened in Paris on Wednesday and is scheduled to run through Aug. 5. Located near the Seine on the Right Bank, the Cinémathèque is part movie museum, part film society, housed in a modernist complex designed by architect Frank Gehry.
The show, organized by the Museum of Modern Art, debuted in New York in 2009 and became the third most-attended exhibition in the museum's history. In L.A., where the show ran for 135 days in 2011, the exhibition was LACMA's fifth-best attended show in the last three decades.
As with the show's previous engagements, the Paris run is a marketing bonanza for the Cinémathèque. The exhibition has been heavily promoted online, on the radio and through other media. The gift shop is selling DVD box sets of Burton's movies. The Cinémathèque is showing a retrospective of Burton's films as part of the exhibition. As in the LACMA run, the filmmaker has chosen a sidebar of movies that have influenced his work. Among the titles are Murnau's "Nosferatu," Fellini's "8 1/2" and Ed Wood's transvestite opus "Glen or Glenda" (French title: "Louis ou Louise"). Paris will be the final stop for the Burton exhibition, according to a MOMA spokeswoman.

Op Donderdag 13 oktober 2011 zal om 20 uur de eerste ‘Cinesud’ bijeenkomst gehouden worden in het Theater aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht. Schrijver/Regisseur/Producent Paul Ruven, winnaar van 3 gouden kalveren, zal de avond openen.
Ook de bekende Nederlandse dramaturg Paul Bertram (vast commissielid van het Filmfonds) zal een korte inleiding geven op de cursus ‘scenarioschrijven’ die Cinesud later dit jaar organiseert.
Na deze korte inleiding wordt de avond informeel voortgezet. Ambitieuze makers uit de regio kunnen elkaar ontmoeten en inspireren. Paul Ruven en Paul Bertram zullen ook aanwezig blijven om hun brede vakkennis te delen.
Op zaterdag 15 oktober biedt Paul Ruven apart de gelegenheid aan alle makers uit de regio om een idee voor een film of televisie bij hem te pitchen. Het beste idee zal vervolgens persoonlijk met Paul Ruven verder ontwikkeld worden.
Filmfestival Gent Studenten Viscom / Video gaan op 16 oktober naar het Filmfestival te Gent (be).
Het Internationaal Filmfestival van Vlaanderen - Gent werd opgericht in 1974 door de universitaire Filmclub en ontwikkelde zich sindsdien tot één van de meest prominente Europese filmevenementen.
Elk jaar in oktober stelt het festival ruim 100 langspeelfilms en 30 kortfilms voor uit de gehele wereld. De afgelopen jaren wist het festival een publiek van ruim 130.000 toeschouwers aan te trekken.
Naast een officiële competitie organiseert het festival jaarlijks een reeks concerten, en gaf het op die manier een plateau aan componisten als: Ennio Morricone, Gabriel Yared, Elmer Bernstein, Michael Kamen, Patrick Doyle, Howard Shore, Georges Delerue, Hans Zimmer, Maurice Jarre, Craig Armstrong, Harry-Gregson Williams, Mychael Danna en Gustavo Santaolalla.
IDFA Studenten Viscom / Video gaan op 26 november naar de IDFA te Amsterdam.
Als bescheiden initiatief begonnen in 1988, is het festival uitgegroeid tot het grootste en meest veelzijdige documentaire filmfestival in de wereld.
Activiteiten
IDFA herbergt een groot aantal activiteiten die veel verder gaan dan alleen de vertoning van kwaliteitsdocumentaires. Ontwikkeling, productie en distributie worden gestimuleerd door respectievelijk de Documentaire Workshop, het FORUM, het Jan Vrijman Fonds, Docs for Sale en IDFAcademy. Bijna jaarlijks komen er nieuwe festivalonderdelen bij. De kern van het festival wordt nog steeds gevormd door de opdracht die de oprichters zich stelden: het creëren van een professioneel podium voor de creatieve documentaire voor een zo groot mogelijk publiek. Dit is met name nodig in een tijd dat de audiovisuele industrie, gestuurd door commercialisering en kijkcijfers, entertainment verkiest boven creativiteit en auteurschap.
IDFA kent momenteel zeventien programma-onderdelen, waaronder acht competitieprogramma’s. Voor elk daarvan worden vooral films geselecteerd die op de een of andere manier grensverkennend of grensverleggend zijn. De signatuur van de maker staat daarbij voorop. Een creatieve documentaire is een individuele kunstuiting, waarin de maker vanuit een eigen perspectief de werkelijkheid interpreteert en zijn visie op een creatieve wijze vorm geeft. Daarbij zijn het niet alleen de vormaspecten die een film belangwekkend maken. Cinematografische waarde, maatschappelijke relevantie en communicatief vermogen zijn de voorwaarden waaraan een meesterwerk moet voldoen.

Excursie Viscom
 Dutch version Jeff Wall. The Crooked PathViscom studenten tweede jaar fotografie ontmoetten Jeff Wall tijdens hun bezoek aan de tentoonstelling.
De Canadese kunstenaar Jeff Wall (°1946) tracht sinds de jaren 1970 fotografie een bevoorrechte plaats te geven binnen de beeldende kunsten. Hij monteert zijn foto's vaak in grote lichtkasten, waardoor ze een iconografisch karakter krijgen.
Jeff Wall is zonder twijfel een van de meest invloedrijke figuren in de kunstwereld van de voorbije 30 jaar. Naar eigen zeggen streeft hij met zijn foto's naar een "schilderkunst van het moderne leven".
De tentoonstelling ‘The Crooked Path', letterlijk, het kromme pad, richt zich op de context waarin zijn werk tot stand kwam. Je ontdekt er Walls bochtige (of kromme, zo je wil) parcours via een uitgebreide selectie uit zijn werk en dat van andere kunstenaars. Of het nu gaat om invloeden uit schilderkunst, fotografie, film, literatuur, documentaire of zijn eigen theoretische standpunten, de tentoonstelling tracht de interne samenhang van zijn werk aan te tonen. In de tentoonstelling komt een brede waaier aan thema's uit zijn werk aan bod zoals het minimalisme, de relatie tot ‘schaal', de historische fotografie, de conceptuele en postconceptuele fotografie, de literatuur en de documentaire fotografie. ‘The Crooked Path' biedt de kijker dus een breed overzicht van relaties, verbindingen, suggesties en confrontaties tussen een 130-tal kunstwerken.
Jeff Wall selecteerde zelf 25 eigen foto's, van de jaren 1970 tot vandaag, en confronteert ze met werken van een aantal doelbewust gekozen kunstenaars die tijdens de afgelopen 40 jaar aan de basis liggen van zijn denkproces. Het gaat om zelden getoonde werken die grotendeels afkomstig zijn uit Europese en Noord-Amerikaanse collecties, van Duchamp, Arbus, Atget, Wols, Gursky, Claerbout, Struth, Stella, Smithson, Graham, Wallace, Weiner...
FieldtripsBooks, slides, DVD’s, posters, movies, websites and other sources of art reproductions all serve a purpose in art teaching, but a full art education involves students actually seeing and experiencing art. That’s way the department organizes annually several excursions and field trips, all excursions are subject-related to the field of contemporary visual and media culture . The primary goal with excursions is to further the students' knowledge of the world around them. The easiest, most effective way to introduce art students to the joy of seeing art is to take them on art trips to museums, galleries, festivals, exhibition or participating in a workshop with foreign students. Valencia (Spain), 13–18 November 2010 Visual Communication (VisCom) students are visiting Valencia and New York to experience foreign culture, art, image - and street culture. Not only in a passive way by visiting for example Moma, AIPAD, Guggenheim, etc. But also in an active way by being involved in several project in these cities. In Valencia a join interdisciplinary project with Art Centre Sala Parpolla en in New York probably with Parsons, the new school of design. All this as a part of the professional training of the Vis(ual) Com(munication) students.
