Propedeutic year The Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maastricht – ABKM (Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design) offers a general foundation course (Propedeuse/ Propedeutics). This means that in their first semester, students follow a common study programme, but are able to determine their own courses as their studies progress. Conscientious study advice and supervision allows students to gain valuable insight in their own talents and capabilities. The study programme offers a wide range of courses, in which understanding of the specifics of several professions is deemed essential. Choices in the second semester are made according to personal affinities and sensitivity. At the end of the academic year, the college of tutors grades the student’s portfolio and progress individually; in these meetings, decisions are made with regards to continuation of studies in one of the majors available.
