In order to gain valuable insights into the depth and latitude of the disciplines and to guarantee a good connection to the professional field, the students are coached by a team of professionals working in the disciplines concerned.
In the 2nd and 3rd year, integrated working within the various disciplines is fostered and the focus lies on developing an own artistic identity and vision. The student explores the methodical way of design and self-reflection through practice – related projects, external assignments and competitions. A special practical and technical training is given for each discipline. By this kind of experimenting, the student discovers the respective field and develops his personal style and identity. This is supported by theoretical complementary components such as concept development, design theory and art history.
Jewellery design
“Body Related Products”; The specialization focuses on Contemporary Jewellery, unique pieces for which the student develops his own independent vision and researches the limits of wear ability and function.
The use of form, materials and placing it in a certain context are important and challenging. On the other hand, we focus on fashion-related jewellery. This jewellery is manufactured in limited editions; it is designed having fashionable clothing, the human body and the social context in mind. Besides this, the student has to research his own positioning within the field.
Product design
Product design within the abkm gives the student insight into the aspects of the more autonomous as well as the industrial side of designing (Although this study does not train industrial designers). The handling of new and innovative material forms an important part in this development.
Designing of products and collections for the future user is one of the primary aspects of the future professional field. That is why the students are encouraged to respond assertively to current developments in order to shape their own identity; Professional independence is fostered and shaped during this study.
